Product Placement

Monday afternoon, I took my class of 6- to 12-year-olds from my job to the Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum in Dulles, Va. This was not my first trip to this museum, but it is the first where I took pictures.

There museum is not far from the Dulles Airport and features a mock air traffic control tower that allows you to watch airplanes as they land and take-off from the airport.

While there are a number of impressive exhibits and displays throughout the museum...

...I was most impressed by the very subtle product placement and advertisements found throughout the museum.

Yes, Bud Light gets two planes and a flight suit!

So that's why the museum is free! I always wondered where they got their funding!

By the way, this post meets my dad's challenge of 20 posts by the New Year, and not a moment too soon!

I love visiting their Air and Space museum at Dulles. The museum is free because because it is part of the Smithsonian museums which are owned by the Federal Government. The planes in question were owned by those sponsors and flew with their ads, and the firms donated the aircraft to the government knowing that their ads would remain on the aircraft...giving them free advertising in perpetuity.

When I first heard about that museum, I thought, gee I got to get there. I would love hanging out in that mock tower watching the planes land.

I am hoping to get to the newly renovated Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in NYC this spring or summer. They have a Concorde on display there.

Great post!

Christian - I'm sure you'll enjoy the museum.

And, if you pay US taxes, the museum is not free. You just don't know what it costs you.

Ah Ha........when we come to visit, it truely will be free for us!

Amazing how comercialism becomes a part of almost everything that is out there.
